Radical transformation

New Day, Inc., located in Billings, Montana, provides numerous quality, community-based programs that
address the physical, educational, and emotional needs of severe emotionally disturbed youth,
substance abuse treatment for adults, mental health counseling and cultural healing programs for
people who have experienced trauma. We believe in culture as the foundation of human growth;
spirituality as the strength of the people; each person’s need to love and be loved; family preservation;
individual responsibility; and the pursuit of human potential.

Dear New Day Family,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved board chair, Joe Chalupa. Joe, a passionate advocate for the homeless and a stalwart supporter of mental health initiatives, left an indelible mark on our organization and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

I met Joe over 15 years ago, while he was serving as the director of the HUB- where homeless people could hang out. He has dedicated himself to helping people in pain, contributing to numerous committees aimed at eradicating the stigma surrounding homelessness and mental health. He became New Day’s Board Chairman a year ago- his impact was immeasurable, and his unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others was an inspiration to us all.

Joe’s infectious laughter, sharp wit, impeccable style, and boundless enthusiasm made him the heartbeat of our community. He was not just a leader but a cherished friend, always ready to lend a helping hand and uplift our spirits. His contributions as New Day’s board chair elevated our organization to new heights, and all his support for me was a testament to his genuine and selfless nature.

In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family has requested that donations be made to New Day, our organization that held a special place in his heart. It is a fitting tribute to a man whose life exemplified compassion, dedication, and love for others.

During this difficult time, let us come together as a family to celebrate Joe’s remarkable legacy and find solace in the memories we shared. Details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared as soon as they are available.

We extend our deepest condolences to Joe’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this challenging time. Joe will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the work we continue to do in his honor.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Sheri Boelter, MSW
Chief Executive Officer
